For Seniors on Medicare

Any in the healthcare field disagree, tell me this is not true?

Letter from a senior gentleman in Mesa, Arizona:

Dear Family, Friends, Neighbors and former Classmates,

I just found myself in the middle of a medical situation that made it very clear that "the affordable care act" is neither affordable, nor do they care.

I'll go back about seven years ago to a fairly radical prostate surgery that I underwent. The Urologist (a personal friend) who performed the surgery was very concerned that it was cancer, though I wasn't told this until the lab report revealed it was benign. Since that procedure, I have experienced numerous urinary tract infections, UTI's. Since I had never had a "UTI" prior to the prostate surgery, I assume that it is one of the side effects from surgery, an assumption since confirmed by my Family Doctor.

The weekend of

March 8-9, I was experiencing all the symptoms of another bout of UTI. By Monday afternoon the infection had hit with full force. Knowing that all I needed was an antibiotic, I went to an Urgent Care Center in Mesa, AZ., to provide a specimen, a requirement for getting the prescription. After waiting 45 min. to see the Doctor, I started getting very nauseous and light headed.

I went to the Receptionist to ask where the bathroom was as I felt that I was going to throw up. I was told that I would have to wait for the Doctor because I would need to leave a specimen and they didn't want me in the bathroom without first seeing him.

That was when the lights went out, my next awareness was that of finding myself on the floor (in the waiting room) having violent dry heaves, and very confused. At this point, I tried to stand up but couldn't make it, and they made it very clear they weren't going to let me get up until the ambulance got there. By the way, when you're waiting to see the Doctor and you pass out, you get very prompt attention.

Now, "the rest of the story", and the reason for sending this to so many of you.

I was taken to the nearest hospital, to emergency. Once there, I was transported to an emergency examination room. Once I had removed my clothes and donned one of those lovely hospital gowns, I finally got to see a Doctor. I asked "what is going on" I'm just having a UTI, just get me the proper medication and let me go home. He told me that my symptoms presented the possibility of sepsis, a potentially deadly migration of toxins, and that they needed to run several tests to determine how far the infection had migrated.

For the next 3 hours I was subjected to several tests, blood draws, EKG's, and demands for specimens. At about

7:30 the nurse came back to my room to inform me that one of the tests takes 1- 2 days to complete, I asked if they (the results)could be emailed, at which point she informed me that I wouldn't need them emailed because I wasn't going anywhere. I started arguing with her but was told, "if you don't start behaving, I'll start taking your temperature rectally, at which point I became a perfect gentleman. I did tell her I wanted to see the doctor because I had no intention of staying overnight.

Now, this is what I want each of you to understand, please read these next sentences carefully.

The doctor finally came in to inform me that he was going to admit me. I said, "are you admitting me for treatment or for observation?" He told me that I would be admitted for observation. I said Doctor, correct me if I'm wrong, but if you admit me for observation my Medicare will not pay anything, this due to the affordable care act , he said that's right, it won't. I then grabbed for my bag of clothing and said, then I'm going home. He said you're really too sick to be going home, but I understand your position, this health program is going to hit seniors especially hard.

The doctor then left the room and I started getting dressed, I was just getting ready to put my shoes on when another doctor (the closer) came into the room, he saw me dressed and said, "where do you think you are going?" I simply said "I'm going home, to which he replied, quite vociferously, no you aren't.

I said, "Doc, you and I both know that under the "affordable care act" anyone on Medicare who is admitted to a hospital for observation will be responsible for the bill, Medicare won't pay a cent". At which point he nodded in affirmation. I said, "You will either admit me for a specific treatment or you won't admit me." Realizing he wasn't going to win this one, he said he would prepare my release papers.

A few minutes later the discharge nurse came to my room to have me sign the necessary papers, relieving them from any responsibility. I told her I wasn't trying to be obstinate, but I wasn't going to be burdened with the full (financial) responsibility for my hospital stay.

After making sure the door was closed, she said, "I don't blame you at all, I would do the same thing." She went on to say, "You wouldn't believe the people who elect to leave for the same reasons, people who are deathly sick, people who have to be wheeled out on a gurney." She further said, "The 'Affordable Care Act' is going to be a disaster for seniors. Yet, if you are in this country illegally, and have no coverage, you will be covered in full."

This is not internet hype folks, this is real, I just experienced it personally. Moving right along, this gets worse.

Today I went to a (required) follow up appointment with my Arizona Family Practitioner. Since my white count was pretty high, the follow up was important. During the visit I shared the experience at emergency, and that I had refused to be admitted. His response was "I don't blame you at all, I would have done the same thing". He went on to say that the colonoscopy and other procedures are probably going to be dropped from coverage for those over 70

.

I told him that I had heard that the affordable care act would no longer pay for cancer treatment for those 76 and older, is that true? His understanding is that it is true.

The more I hear, and experience the Affordable Care Act, the more I'm beginning to see that we seniors are nothing more than an inconvenience, and the sooner they can get rid of us the better off they'll be.

November is coming folks, we can have an impact on this debacle by letting everyone in Congress know that their responsibility is to the constituents, not the president and not the lobbyists. We need to let them ALL know that they are in office to serve and to look after the BEST INTERESTS of "we the people", their employers, and not to become self serving bureaucrats who serve only out of greed. And if they don't seem to understand this simple logic, we'll fire them.

On the mend, (signed)

REMEMBER: Demand your hospital admission is for TREATMENT and NOT for OBSERVATION!

That was an interesting read. I don't think at my hospital it would be so easy to leave though. I think Medicaid would cover the stay, not sure about medicare. The affordable care act I'm not familiar with how it affects other insurance.

is this another email ,a person just writing something? maybe a facebook post?
I think I would need more info. I am a senior citizen.and none of this article has affected me,or anyone I know. I have been in the hospital twice since July of last year,I got top notch treatment. we get excellent care..it would be nice to see some kind of link or real proof of this one persons comment.,,I was admitted both times and kept until I was healed. of course one is under observation also, while in the hospital. also everything was paid for by medicare, because of the AFC,I had nothing out of pocket.

This article is not based on fact it is one person's thought,..I have fact that medicare does not go against seniors.. I had the best care one could get.

I don't think "proof" is an issue here because it can't be proven online. Its someone telling a story, where it came from is irrelevant if its ligament or not.

Its probably an email since there is no link.

Very true Mark, the thing is these made up stories don't ring true, the AFC is proving to be very good,/stable/and of course anything new will always be room for improvement. I do believe if we have to give links, it should be for all of us to. just saying. with respect, of course. not finding stories to down something that is helping 8million+

When I read it on FB it was posted by a friend in Missouri with no link, I believe what the man is saying could be true, there is a big difference between observation and treatment and the way they have rigged the books on coverage this is very possible. when you were in the hospital they obviously knew what your condition was, but if you have symptoms that were difficult to diagnose and required observation this may be a whole different set of rules under Obamacare.it all depends what is in the fine print and how it is taken in context

Rigged SSC? this is my recommendation! study the law, quit being so Republican you can't see the facts
Louisiana is hurting, because Jindal will not expand to cover  people(poor) that need healthcare,it is paid for by you tax monies! it is simple, Private Insurance is improved with  AFC. do the study! Some people can't afford private insurance,so then what happens? this gives help who need it, what is wrong with that? opinion you once told me, are a dime a dozen LOL

Telling me to stop being Republican is like telling you to stop believing all the Democrats that are leading you like sheep to slaughter. Yes Louisiana needs revamped health care as do many other states but not at the expense the Feds are trying to slide in to it in years to come, the way it is written in time the states will have to absorb the healthcare cost as the Feds turn it over state by state Jindal knew this was impossible for the state to support this and obviously other states have realized this also, in the long run it can turn into financial suicide. In my opinion there should be one medical coverage , equal in all aspects, eliminating insurance companies completely, let the Gov. finance it and monitor it, all equal coverage, no huge co-pays, no gold-silver-bronze and bare minimum policies. Just one policy, affordable to all citizens, equality from top to bottom.

So with all your Democrat blood you believe in abortion, forced birth control, separation of races, free rides for illegals, changing the constitution with every whim , and yes I said Jindal is an idiot and not president material, he is shaping up and finally fighting Common Core that is an educational train wreck. You keep bleeding and cheerleading for the Dems, good luck with that.

LOL now  the subject turns.? I believe abortion should be a woman's choice, between her and God, and her mate . I don't want government in my bedroom. separation from races where the world do you get that Idea SSC?  Republicans are the constitution changers..  free rides for illegals, ?? that is far from what i believe and most Democrats don't Jindal is one of the least approved governor, even his own people don't like him,he is a screwball with many lose screws. he is sure not helping the state of Lousiana. Education is the key ,if we continues to let Jindal and  and his ilk dumb down America we are lost.  I believe your grasping for straws here SSC. just saying. oh yes one other thing, abortion is the legal wade versus wade remember? Birth control of course I believe in birth control I had six children, I am proud there is such a thing as birth control

I most certainly will keep believing that Democrats are better for our country and its people. facts are facts. we see it everyday, now if we could get Congress to work we would see even greater improvement, the train wreck is over because Obama is President now.

Yeah the wreck only has 2 more years...lol..wonder what the Nat. debt will be by then, or the number in illegals given free rides, or the poor pushed under the rug, maybe he will get his high dollar buddies to invest in more bogus businesses to make him look good like Solyndra ..great job or more little smart( rolling death trap) cars wonderful ideas, lets funnel everyone to Medicaid so there is such a Dr. shortage no one can be seen if a Dr. will take you since they are paid the bare minimum now. Obama has done wonders, so many green jobs, fired off the unemployment rate, encouraged illegals to become legal the right way...wowwwwwwwwwwwwww what a track record on his watch..

Carter..oh dear lord , Clinton has some good things till he couldn't keep his pants on and disgraced the office and lied in senate hearings, Abe goes a little far back for me, Eisenhower was a mans man not a wimp as we have now. Obama is not loyal to the US his Muslim background is painfully obvious, never has this country been divided by a president as he has done, illegals getting ready to get a free ride, our flag not allowed on clothing in schools, no pledge in schools, the word fiesta said by a white now has become racist, since when does the Gov. own over half a state as in Nevada then sells it for millions below fair price to China ? Even the blacks are disgusted with Obama. His own party members are shrinking into the shadows. A school voting to NOT let Michele do the commencement ceremony, and it goes on and on. A sad time in America once the land of the free and home of the brave.

Carter created more jobs than Reagan and bush senior combined;.
I believe every president had trouble keeping their pants on, Carter was the only one that did. Democrats didn't create no prayers in school and etc, that was your republicans who did this.  you must live in a dire place the pledge is still said and sung, and prayer is allowed in school just not in class  because of the many different nationalities and religions, that should be done at church and home. your still grasping SSC Laughing

Not grasping Gyp , quoting facts, I'm not the one turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to the downfall of this country. But like I said you keep believing everything is sunshine and roses, for your sake I hope your health stays good, I wouldn't want to be in your shoes with your trust in Obamacare for any family member.
