1 Question about IE Browser on Fri Feb 08, 2013 8:12 pm

this is important. Apparently there are security risks in all versions of IE and Microsoft is warning IE users to abandon ship for a few days. I'm attaching a link to the story for you.

http://www.zdnet.com/patch-tuesday-ie-at-risk-of-malware-attacks-57-flaws-in-total-7000011012/?s_cid=e539

Can anyone further this info?

I know I can bypass IE ...but it happens to be part of my computer set-up.

I assume Malware are adverts.

I just read that, Malware includes computer viruses, ransomware, worms, trojan horses, rootkits, keyloggers, dialers, spyware, adware, malicious BHOs and other malicious programs.

Everyone has IE that has windows operating system. They are just suggesting you not use it until they have the patches ready to be installed. If you have your updates set to automatic you will receive these updates as soon as they are released, which could be several days. If you don't have your updates set to download automatically you will have to open internet explorer without the patches and go to windows update site and download and install them. Setting your computer to receive updates automatically is the safest way to get them because you don't have to open internet explorer.

Just avoid using internet explorer until you have the updates. There should be no reason you have to use IE, unless of course you don't know how to do something any other way.

Thanks for quick reply

I have my settings to automatic download from Microsoft.

Although I use Chrome to research the Net.

I use IE to get to my Home page ... Virgin run by Richard Branson

So I can read the English News. Perhaps I should abstain for now.

I hear Richard Branson is selling....

Of course IE supports Chrome....

You can open your homepage with chrome or firefox, actually any browser. You just have to set your browsers homepage, which in your case is Chrome. After that chrome will open it.

Its not a matter of IE supporting Chrome, IE does not affiliate itself with any browser, its a stand alone browser. It doesn't matter if IE supports any browser type it doesn't control anything and has nothing to do with other browsers functionality.

The only thing you need IE for is if you want to download windows updates manually, you have to use IE for that.

On the bottom of your screen on the left-hand side click Start, then "All Programs".

and find Google Chrome in the list of programs, click that, it should then open google chrome. Then you will need to go to you homepage, if you don't know the URL of your homepage copy it first before you do any of this, and once you have Chrome open paste the URL into your browser bar and press "enter" on your keyboard, that will take you to your homepage. If you need to login then do so, and once you are on the page you call your homepage and the page you want Chrome to open every time you start it, you will need to go into your settings, probably under "tools" and investigate how to tell it to make the page you are on your new homepage. Every browser has a different way of setting it, so I can't tell you exactly where on the chrome browser that is, but I have done it before and I think its in tools under "options". I don't have chrome right now I uninstalled it months ago.

Try that and get back to me, I'll help you anyway I can.

Also, if you want the chrome icon on your desktop so all you have to do is click that to start your browser, first right-click the chrome again in "All Programs" and select "Send to" and select "create desktop shortcut".

Well I give up for to-night

Incredimail has a MY Start Browser and Home Page. They are situated in Israel.

It is a blasted nuisance and is invasive.
Google is not happy about it and may try to sue incredimail over it....
Not sure... Or sue for misleading people...it has withdrawn its support for incredimail for 6 months. I cannot say that this info is the exact truth, but something is going on.

Hey The spell checker I allowed works for me.

I have to change my Home Page back to Virgin.

Do not want Googles Home Page.

Now that's a thought ...Who has the best Home Page?

I managed a Chrome short cut on my desk top ...but it takes me to My Start

Thanks for your help Tyler, I am getting there.

Hi Tyler

I am definitely using Chrome for everything and defaulted from IE

Have got my Chrome shortut icon on Desktop

Just having a bit of trouble getting straight to my Home Page Virgin.

Chrome short cut sends me to My Start Home Page which is part of Incredimail set-up.

I see TABS which I click on to get to my homepage Virgin.

I am going to inquire with my Incredi friends if I can get rid of this My Start home page and toolbar
with out upsetting my Incredimail Application.

Brian has had a go without success.

Chrome does not have toolbars at the top ...have to click drop down.

Great, glad to hear you're making progress.

Well without knowing much about Incredimail I can't help you much there.

Here is a page that will help you set up the page that chrome will open when you click the icon on your desktop, its called your "start page".

I'll try to explain this how to get the url to your homepage that you want chrome to open when you click the icon:

First make your way to the Incredimail page you want chrome to land on when you first start it, then once you are there copy the URL of the page at the top in your browser, then follow the instructions as explained at the link I posted below. The trick is, is to copy and paste the link you want chrome to open when you first start it in the right place in the chrome settings.

I had Incredimail at one time and had nothing but trouble with it, it seems to come with alot of extra unwanted baggage. Took me forever to uninstall it.

Oh its an installed program, I forgot that, well that changes everything. The best thing to do is uninstall that piece of garbage, those email programs that you have to install on your computer are a security risk and hazarded, what you want is a "online" email account so no email gets downloaded to your computer. Incredimail is a lot like Outlook Express but I'm not sure the emails get downloaded to your computer with Incredimail, even if it doesn't you don't need to install anything these days, and no one uses email programs anymore that knows anything about computers. No offense Candy just letting you know to steer clear of email programs, you don't need to install anything these days, you should use an online email account. They have messengers and all that other stuff if you want, which I never use. I like AOL mail been using it for 10 years.

I have deleted incredi's Tool Bar

Yet to find a way to remove My Start Home Page.

I much prefer Chrome Browser to IE ...IE was very slow.

SSC I have always used Incredi for 7 years. It use to belong to an English couple when it first came out.
It takes time to learn. I am a creator with my own site so I need incredi.
I use their Letter Creator also Paint Shop Pro.
It gives the option to use Facebook button but I have that turned off.
I do not belong to Twitter.

Anyone UNinstalling Incredi is advised to down load a little prog. to remove the fragments left in the Register.

Incredi is not a program it is an Application that one can default to.

I am thinking that Outlook Express creating is not availble now, at least not on windows 7

Yes Emails do come straight into incredi, but they are screened.

I have a separate Account for Hotmail but only use it in emergency if incredi breaks down. (Which would be my fault)

I have Messenger but don't use it now.

When I installed Incredimail it also came with emotioncons and a ton of popups, then my security started warnings, I dumped the whole mess and have had no more of those issues.

They still have emoticons but I do not use them...
I like collecting Animations and even made a few in Animation Shop which is part of Paint Shop Pro.
I have loads of Animations and keep them on my expansion drive.

No No Incredi does not have Pop-ups or any advertising ... as far as I know it never has.

On occasions incredi sends one of there own pop-ups... Or email.

I do not use their Notifier or download from their Gallery. I make my own stuff.

There are thousands of users.

Be aware that IncrediMail is considered "malware" by many knowledgeable people. Incredimail has quite a bad reputation if you do a search for it. Its a program that hoses over itself and the operating system. lets you put lots of worthless glitz in your e-mails that your recipients don't want to waste the time and disk space to download. There are tons of site with tuturials on how to uninatall that program, it seems it leaves behind a bunch of registery entries.

Some people are saying things like "Most non-idiots recognize Incredimail as malware because of the hurt it puts on e-mails on the recipients that are sent from the boobs that use it." "It slowed the computer, got ads galore, and also crashed the system when it was being shut down".

Poppycot

Incredi is not Malware nor does it have ads. galore... There are no Ads.

It does not slow down the computer.

Emails can take a minute longer to download because they are larger emails.

Incredi emails can be complex.

My Members have stayed with me for years and not all have incredi.

Never in the 7 years I have used it... has it crashed my system when I close.

Revo can uninstall Registry fragments.
You can get a free un installer called Revo which will remove all traces of any programme

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Revo-Uninstaller.shtml

It often is the operator, you cannot believe everything that is said.

IncrediMail is free; free as long as you pay by advertising for it in the emails you send. Yes, the banner IncrediMail inserts at the bottom of outgoing mail is helps IncrediMail promote the program or other services while it's free, monetarily, for users.

Of course, you can also pay for IncrediMail in money and remove the advertising banner.

Remove the IncrediMail Advertising Banner from Emails You Send

To rid emails you send in IncrediMail from the advertising signature: Purchase IncrediMail Premium.

http://email.about.com/od/incredimailtips/qt/et_ads_in_email.htm

Incredimail makes your email messages huge. I've seen messages as large as 800K. More commonly the emails are around 80k. This is still about 10 times larger than not-so-incredible emails.

No one will take your seriously. Do you think people would like it if you hummed "If you're happy and you know it" for 30 seconds after each voicemail you left? Then why do you think people enjoy the 14 dancing smiley faces attached to each email your send?

It labels you as technically illiterate. Resumes authored from Incredimail go right in the garbage.

There are spam filter programs on the market today that are specifically designed to filter out emails from Incredimail. The demand for these programs are growing in numbers daily.

Incredimail looks like spam, and sometimes it is. Incredimail adds all sorts of crap to email. In fact, you might even say the products primary purpose is to add crap to email. Antispam tools see this junk and filter it out as spam. The free version of Incredimail attaches advertisements to each message - making it all the more like spam.

SpamButcher's junk email filter is specifically tuned to let most Incredimail messages through. The same isn't necessarily the case for other filters. If you're using Incredimail, a good chunk of your messages may never reach their destination.

If you're an existing user and I've offended you, sorry.

At various points SpamButcher has specifically supported Incredimail. Technically, the spam filter program works fine with it. From a practical standpoint, Incredimail users seem to have a lot of support issues. Existing users will continue to be supported. When new customers ask if the product works with Incredimail, the answer is "we don't recommend it."
