stop it gypsy, leave politics out of it.
there are good teachers and bad teachers.
they certainly need to know more information these days.
as for dealing with unruly kids, well they need nerves of steel.

Candy I agree with you there are good and bad teachers, having put 2 kids through school and now a 15yr. old g-baby in high school the differences in teachers is startling. A dedicated teacher is becoming a thing of the past but in the same sense the rate of pay is a big factor. Frustration at having their hands tied by school boards on discipline is causing chaos in schools. The local schools here each have a policeman on duty during school hours, this will give you an idea of the turmoil in the school system. My g-baby wants to be a SS teacher then work on her law degree. Teaching just doesn't pay the bills unless you go all the way to college professor.

When I was in 6 grade our teacher had a unique way to discipline us if he saw two students arguing. He had the entire class go outside and form a circle, and the two students that were arguing and disrupting the class had to fight each other. The teacher had boxing gloves for them to use. My guess is the teacher used to be a boxer but I'm not sure about that. Anyway, one day I got in an argument with a guy and the teacher said "Everyone outside!, these two guys are going to fight it out". I was nervous but kept my cool. Well the class formed a circle and this guy who's name was "Roger" and I put on the boxing gloves. The teacher said "Begin fighting!!", Well Roger took the first swing at me and I ducked his punch and he missed, I returned immediately with a counter left-hand punch (I'm left-handed) and hit him square in the face and he fell backwards like a tree falling down. He stayed on the ground halfway conscience and the teacher declared me the winner and it was over. One swing was all it took for me take him out. People were patting me on the back saying "Way to go!!!". Roger never messed with me again.

Of course now days that could never happen. That teacher would have been fired. I told my Mom about it that day and she didn't like it, but was glad I won.

that poor poor boy, you could have done him some brain damage.
his mum could have sued your mum.

this form of correction is nothing new.
in the 1950's our headmaster did the same thing in the playground with two boys
who were all ready fighting. trouble was the boys could not put the gloves on properly, (Big Delay) then they had no clue how to Box. the fight was disbanded without a punch.
the headmaster was disgusted and never attempted that form of punishment again.
the playground was concrete.

now when it comes to girls fighting....well all i had to do was grab her hair and
she was powerless. i use to fight boys as well, but they were dead scared of me....haha
i was very threatening.

Brian's all boys School had a gym for Boxing with a proper Boxing ring.
That would not be allowed these day.

There were 5 or 6 houses in his school and if anyone did anything wrong than House Points were deducted, which made the boy look bad.
There were elete houses where the best boys were all to-gether in one house.

At end of Term the points were added up or deducted and the winning house got rewards like a book
(prizes for the top best boys). The house got a shield.

I went to a mixed School.

No she couldn't have sued my Mom. The school was responsible not my Mom. The teacher of the school made us fight, he orchestrated the whole thing. In the United States the school would be held accountable, not my Mom. If she tried to sue my Mom if would not have held up in court. It would be tossed out. In fact there never would have been a court date with my Mom because the School's teacher orchestrated the whole thing and even provided the gloves.
