gypsy i have cut alot of it down, but have never ate any. i was told, i notice it grows in fresh ground alot, like dirt without grass, or freshly plowed up ground for any reason. i was told the reason it is in fresh dirt, is because birds eat the seeds, and the birds like to ruffle there feather or whatever u call they do in fresh dirt, and leave a deposit, the seed, it makes sense, but i do know i notice it more in fresh dirt, i remember the song well. is it more like turnip greens , or collard greens or mustard green or none of these, if u have ate any,,??? i also hear some ppl cook it by mixing it in with other greens, because it is a bit strong, ?

Rosco i have cooked and eat it many times,
I even fry the new tender stems like okra breaded and fried in hot oil~ you have to peel the red membrane off stem so it won't be tough it is delicious~ also with my poke salad,I fry some bacon, crisp remove and let drain, crumble, mix in a bit of vinegar to the grease carefully lol

and serve over the cooked poke salad.add crumbled bacon! yummy!! with a slab of buttered corn bread
