Back then the dollar was still worth a solid equivalent in gold. 22 cents would have been about .1 oz of gold. Today that would be about 13 bucks an hour.

$2000 to $5000....That would be 120k to 300k a year today. That's quite decent. Also interesting to see that gold apparently has kept its value.
