I don't know and haven't been able to figure out whats wrong with my computer, ir could be my connection, maybe not, maybe something more serious, so I'm just telling you I might at any day now be offline and not around, this computer (or the functionality of) is failing. I don't know how much longer it will hold out. I've used all of my skills and knowledge to figure this out, but have failed. I hate failing at this stuff but I can't fix it. I've tried everything. I may have to buy a new computer, this one could perhaps be finished and wasted. The problem with that is I have no idea what ruined it, I did nothing wrong. Its a total mystery to me.

You know much more than me, but have you thought of just re-installing a hard drive? Also, the new Windows 7 is $200 and it is highly reccomended (unlike Vista). Just a thought. Also, believe it or not, Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. have tons of perfectly good puters given away by people simply chasing after the newest version of what they want. Mine works perfectly but I'm having connection probs. I checked the ethernet modem and it tests OK. A mystery to me but I'm gonna keep working on it.

not sure what its doing if not getting online make sure its not ur modem, my modem went out, i guessed at it, went to walmart and got a new one over a year ago and that was the problem, but the way u talk its not a get online problem, but they dont last forever mother boards go out, , as i have told u the best buy i have seen was at walmart the emachine with XP for 398.00 with a 20 inch thin flat screen, if they still carry it, they were out last time but i did not look this weekend, but i still order dells usually,, good luck

i have had 4 computers one before windows was invented, and used doss commands i got for the kids to learn computers on, then a gateway, the first pentium out , then a dell, and it was working but it was past it life and getting slow, , so i got a new dell like 4 years ago, i got about the best one they had at the time and its still very good, if u get one ppl still prefer xp since it does not tax ur system as hard, version 7 i dont know about but i would want a operating system that has been out a while so to know its ups and downs from ppl, that have used it, my nephew got a new lappy, from dell and ordered it special with xp, but not sure u still can but that emachine at walmart with the 20 inch monitor thin flat, for only 398.00 is hard to pass up, i would imagine the processor in it is not the biggest and best would be the thing to check on it,the other stuff on it is fine,

I really think its my connection and something to do with Java. I'm still working on it. I can barely make my moves at IYT becuase the dice will not load, its pathetic. I might time-out of everything becuase this computer is so fucked. It hates IYT right now, however it loads this forum just fine, but IYT?,, forget it. I'll keep trying to fix it. Thanks for your advice.

Ha! I uninstalled "Sun Java" and my computer is working perfectly now. Go figure. I always was suspicious of Sun Java, never really liked the way they handled their updates for people. It could be a scam or bogus site and program. I uninstalled it and now everything works perfectly.

Fuck Sun Java, worthless piece of shit.

Also, I reverted back to the older version of Firefox, the last one before the latest update. I highly suspect the latest version has bugs. Things work great now.

glad u got it straight, i was checking pcs at walmart today, lol, i guess xp is now gone , the e machines they had 2 both without monitors but so many ppl have good monitors, they can use the one they have . the new e machine, they had 2 , one had windows 7 and 2 gb of memory, and an AMD processor, and as u know many ppl and tech tv,think AMD makes the superior processor, with keyboard and speakers, for 298.00s. but the one that was the best without monitor, was the e machine with windows 7 and AMD processor duel core, and a 750 gb hardrive, why someone need a HD that huge is beyond me, but it had 6 gb of memory with that one for 398.00, which and they both were black,,, but i got the latest version of java a few days ago, as it told me it was now available, and firefox updated automatic, but everything runs fine, anyway glad u got it all going. i have had corrupted downloads, possibility. the new version of java is ok but urs downloaded in a corrupted state. but who knows,,,i got a corrupted download years ago of a new version of aol, and i had to reformat my hardrive on another pc i had, aol had me download the new version, but the tech i talked to later said he never downloads something like that , but call aol and have a disc sent to ur house, and only load with a disk and never download something that big and important.

Well, mine died. The taskbar and the "start" button disappeared. That's major. I used the task manager to access programs via command prompt. I ran "program check" for hours on every folder I could bring up. It corrected a few but no help. I went to my bro's house and went online for help. I had tried all their fixes but one: Re-install XP. So I went to WalMart and bought an e-machine stack. 320 gig hard drive, 2gig RAM, Windows 7,DVD write and read. It was only $298 which is a miracle since that is what I paid for my last one exactly a year ago. I don't fear this new Windows 7. I saw a guy on TV say he couldn't crash his no matter how many windows he stacked up or programs he ran simultaneously. I probably could have worked on my previous e-machine some more but I was anxious to make some chess moves and avoid time-outs. Also, I have a huge operators manual for XP that is very detailed and comprehensive. Now I have a computer I can "play" with. I'm gonna make it my hobby. I also dropped Yahoo home page. They were getting to the point where all my Yahoo searches were being re-directed. I realize it was my fault for picking up a diversion virus, but what could I do? I signed on to Mozilla Firefox today and will use them. thenewmeemoon@hotmail.com is my new addy. I looked at thunderbird e-mail and decided to stick with MSN mail for the time being.

Yeah that is major, glad you got a new one. Its cool you're going to make it hobby too, I'm always here to help if I can.

Well, just when you think you got a problem beat (computer) it raises its ugly head again and pulls you back in. My PC is not fixed, I'm using Internet Explorer right now as it seems to be working fine, and firefox doesn't work good. But IE is working fine, things load. I may never know whats wrong with this pc and get a new one, maybe one like Moons, but for now I'll use IE as it seems to be working OK. But who knows, after I write this it will probably fuck up again.

So now my new "updated theroy" is its a broswer issue. On IE things work fine.

Tomorrow I'll think its the power cord..lmao

This seems to be non-ending problem, the answer may be in a new computer altogether, I'll take this one and throw it in the garbage.

We'll see...

What a piece of crap this PC has become, I literally despise it now, its pure garbage. Believe me folks, you don't want this PC, its ruined. I'm about to throw it away like the trash it is...Seriously, I'd like nothing better than to throw some gasoline on it and burn it to the ground, it would do my heart good to see it destroyed. Or just chunk it in the garbage truck when they come to get the trash, but I want to do it and throw it in their.. not the garbage men, I want the satisfaction of being the one to toss it away.

Damn, maybe I'll get a laptop, and dump this piece of crap..

Or maybe I'll hook my WebTV up again!! Yeah, maybe thats the ticket.

I want to get away from Dell, go back to "HP" or something even better, I'm not impressed with Dell, never have been to be honest.

Or maybe I'll go with a Mac...

Either way, I'm not going to use Firefox anymore, I'm going back full-time to Internet Explorer. Its the only browser that works correctly with this PC.

Screw firefox with this piece of shit.

Comeon spyware and viruses, I'm waiting for you to put this PC out of its 'misery' (sp) no spell checker with IE, oh well. I want it trashed.

HEY MOON, IF U read my post it sounds like u got the 298.00 walmart emachine i saw, and like i said they also had a 398.00 that had duel core processor, tyler i know u probably have tryed all this, i assume u have reinstalled firefox, i have had aol go out on me over the years,, and i 24/7 hour free tech support with them , they always mainly tell me that the software probably is corrupted, and has me uninstall aol and reinstall it, but u probably have already uninstalled firefox and reinstalled, it,, i have never had a problem with a dell,i guess any can give problems, but most ppl i know have not liked a HP but i really should not say as i have not had one, since u like duel core, check out walmarts,
e machine 398.00 one that has the duel core processor, and 6 GB of memory, u will have to use the monitor u have and like moon said it has windows 7,, i know u like lots of memory and 6 is a lot, good luck, it may not be ur pc but some corrupted software , i have had that problem on several things, over the years, i have never actually had a hardware problem with any pc i have had.. i have just kept them till the internet passes me in the processing power i need , i have a 3.2 mhz processor on this one i have had 4 years, and not duel core but hyper thread, which is just a software version of duel core, the software makes the processor act as if it duel core, , but they dont do hyper thread now, i imagine since walmart is 398.00 on duel core , is that cheep because now quad core has been out for a while now, anyway good luck. hey i got a hp 4 GB thumb USB flash drive for just 12 bucks at big lots, i may have posted this so now i have things i never want to loose, on it, i had no idea it was so simple, the pc made it the J drive when i put it in, and i just in windows explorer dragged what i wanted saved to it and told it do copy it there, but not move it there, then i just when windows said it was safe to take out i took it out,

Yes I've uninstalled Firefox and reinatalled it, nothing works but to use IE.

To the contrary to what you just said, most everyone I know thinks HP was the best computer made, certainly not Dell. HP is higher class then Dell, more respected. Dell is a good bargain but is not the highest quality machine, thats obvious. HP puts Dell to shame in my opinion. I still have my old HP and it still works fine, its just not a duel prosessor and is slow, but its old and outdated, but its a HP and still runs.

i assume u have been doing the critical windows updates that keep IE secure. just checking most all the windows critical updates is security issues with IE , just checking i dont have mine do it automatic but tells me its has updates and i go to the window update sight as i have the icon on the destop, and it scans my pc and tells me what i need, just checking, good luck, .

I'm on my 3d computer and can say with confidence it was ME who screwed the first two up. I gave my 1st to my nephew for his kids (HP) and I have my last one (e-machine) here for me to tinker with and learn stuff. I've had the cover off of both and they looked the same as far as solidity of construction and appearance. Neither failed mechanically. As for flashdrives, they are,to me, miraculous. I bought a 2g ($9.88) for music video and FILTHY DISGUSTING PORN storage and plugged it in. It showed up as just another driver I could access as if it is another disc. AMAZING! I immediately got an 8g ($20.00) and will copy and store everything there. I know there must be a good answer for this, but I don't understand why computers bother with mechanical discs when these little (tiny!) chips hold so much data.
